Internship summary
The Women's Health Program located within the Orange County Health Department in Orlando, Florida, will be the host program for the internship project. The Women's Health program offers both family planning and maternal care services.

Currently the program operates out of five clinical sites and has 65 full and part time staff including three medical doctors. With a yearly unduplicated client base of over 5,000, the program is one of the largest prenatal care and family planning providers in Orange County.

Purpose
Creation of Arc GIS based maps of zip code level maternal Child Health Indicators such as; low birth weight, fetal deaths, infant mortality and prematurity by racial/ethnic group (Black, Hispanic, White, and Other). The project would also entail mapping of Women's Health Clients by zip code around Orange County.


Goals
1. To improve program services.

2. To implement targeted zip code specific interventions aimed at decreasing the rates of adverse birth outcomes and mortality.

3. To increase utilization of Women's Health services in areas with low client representation.


Objectives
1. To determine areas with high negative birth outcomes.

2. To determine areas of high client concentrations.

Data or analytic tasks and activities involved
Calculations of Simple Epidemiologic Rates for measures of Infant mortality, prematurity, low and very low birth weight and other relevant Maternal child health variables.


Required data or analytic skills
The intern should be knowledgeable of SPSS, Arc GIS and Rate Calculations and determinations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel are also desired.
